The BAIC Group (officially Beijing Automotive Industry Holding Co (Ltd) was founded in 1958. BAIC is a Chinese state-owned enterprise and holding company of several automobile and machine manufacturers, located in China and in other cities outside of China. Its principal subsidiaries include the passenger car maker BAIC Motor, the military vehicle and SUV manufacturer BAW, and the truck, bus and agricultural equipment manufacturer Foton Motor. Through joint ventures, BAIC makes Hyundai and Mercedes-branded cars for sale on the China market.
BAIC SA Automotive Manufacturing Ltd (BAIC SA) plans to build a completely knocked down, or CKD, automotive manufacturing plant in Zone 1 of the Coega Industrial Zone (IDZ).
The Beijing Industrial Designing & Researching Institute Co. Ltd (BIDR) has been appointed by BAIC SA as EPC Contractor to implement the construction of the Phase 1 (Stage 1) of the project.
